So come watch it with me. I love this. I am a huge fan of Adam Driver I’m a huge fan and Garfield and Liam Neeson always has a particular set of skills that are great for us. a short sinopsis about this film : In Martin Scorsese Silence film, two priests travel to Japan to spread the Christian word and find their mentor. The young Portuguese Jesuit priest Sebastião Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) is sent to Japan in 1638 together with his companion brother, Francisco Garrpe (Adam Driver). There, accompanied by a translator (Tadanobu Asano), they are supposed to follow the rumor that their mentor Cristóvão Ferreira (Liam Neeson) has revoked his Christian faith. Having arrived in Japan, they must realize that the Christians are subjected to a terrible persecution there. After the Shimabara rebellion, the government is trying to free the country with all hardness from Western influences. Transmitted missionaries and Christians are horribly executed. As a test, the Japanese have devised a bizarre ritual: suspects have to trample on images of Jesus Christ lying on the ground. If they refuse, they are carried away, and they are put to death. If they follow the call, their faith is desecrated and destroyed. Silence was filmed for the first time in 1971 by Masahiro Shinoda under the title Silence. Cristóvão Ferreira is a historical figure. His aposteose was enforced under torture at the time of the Japanese persecution of Christians, but later he turned to Zen and wrote pamphlets against Christianity. Many, however, opposed the prohibition of Christianity and continued their religion as ‘Kakure Kirishitan’, as hidden Christians, without contact to Europe for more than 200 years. The screenplay for Silence goes back to a design from the 1990s, which Martin Scorsese wanted to film directly after the Gangs of New York. Instead, he turns Departed – under enemies and put Silence on ice for the time being. Only on the Oscar loan in 2007, Scorsese surprised the press with his announcement that Silence would be brought to the cinema by 2013. But nothing came of it, as Hugo Cabret and The Wolf of Wall Street had already landed in Scorsese’s schedule. It was not until 2014 that production began in Taiwan. Originally, Ken Watanabe (Inception) was to take over the role of the Japanese translator. After he had to withdraw from the project because of difficulties in the project, the part went to Tadanobu Asano (Der Mongole). Wow. I remember that line from the book in my praying to silence. Now this movie Silence is based on a book also called Silence by an author called Shūsaku Endō published in the 1966. I was fortunate enough to have read this book when I was in college during my history class and I am happy to say that this book although very depressing was one of the most influential books I’ve ever read in my life. In fact I rewrote it about four years ago I had heard a few months ago that Martin Scorsese was working on this movie Silence but it kind of got out of my mind and so wake up to this movie Silence made me very excited. They showed more than I thought that they would I loved this motion pictures. They also tortured the people and the people were willing to die as martyrs. But the amazing thing is that there was no glory how the work that they did is what paved the road for Christianity going to Japan and you can talk about the pros and cons of that from cultural perspective but these are people who truly believe what they were doing and were only trying to do good but they were rejected by the Japanese government that there were people who murdered entire villages were ransacked great killed there was some very heavy stuff going on.
